Rendered on our farm
Certified organic beef suet is slowly wet-rendered and filtered to produce the pure tallow at the heart of every bottle.
Why tallow soap?
A true liquid soap made from an ingredient we understand, using a process we control from beginning to end.
Many modern body washes are formulated with synthetic surfactants, acrylic thickeners, artificial fragrance and conditioning agents designed to create the experience of soap.
Ours begins with certified organic, grass-fed Australian beef suet. We render it ourselves on our farm near Tilba, purifying the raw fat into high-grade tallow before transforming it into soap through traditional saponification.
The tallow’s natural fatty-acid profile creates a rich, creamy lather and leaves the skin feeling clean, soft and comfortable. Each wash is naturally scented with essential oils and made carefully in small batches.
From raw suet to true liquid soap
Certified organic beef suet is slowly wet-rendered and filtered to produce the pure tallow at the heart of every bottle.
The tallow is transformed into real soap using the traditional process of saponification rather than a modern detergent base.
The soap paste is gradually diluted with mountain spring water and finished with a carefully chosen blend of essential oils.
This is body wash returned to its traditional form.
7 ways it’s different
Body wash can describe very different kinds of products. Here are seven ways our traditionally made tallow soap differs from a typical modern body wash.
| Comparison | Tilba Tallow | Typical modern body wash |
|---|---|---|
| 01 / 07 What it is | A true liquid soap created through the traditional process of saponification. | Commonly a surfactant-based cleanser rather than a traditionally saponified soap. |
| 02 / 07 Cleansing base | Soap made from certified organic, grass-fed Australian tallow. | Surfactants that may be plant-derived, petroleum-derived or a combination of both. |
| 03 / 07 Origin and making | Raw beef suet sourced from Australian farms, then rendered and saponified in small batches on our farm near Tilba. | Pre-manufactured cosmetic ingredients generally combined through commercial-scale production. |
| 04 / 07 Formula | Mountain spring water, saponified organic tallow, essential oils and Australian sea salt. | Often combines several surfactants with thickeners, stabilisers, preservatives and fragrance. |
| 05 / 07 Scent | Naturally scented using carefully selected essential oils. | Commonly scented using parfum or a formulated fragrance blend. |
| 06 / 07 Thickening | The consistency is adjusted simply using Australian sea salt. | May use salt, gums, polymers or other ingredients to adjust viscosity and texture. |
| 07 / 07 Lather and skin feel | A rich, creamy lather with a clean, comfortable after-feel. | Lather and skin feel vary according to the surfactant and conditioning system used. |
